Before

English Ivy, Japanese Stilt Grass and Periwinkle along with Poison Ivy took over this front yard, turning it into an unmanageable space, where its natural, woodland context got lost in a monoculture of invasive species with no room to grow native plants.

After

We began the restoration process by eradicating all invasive species and weeds through mechanical removal, including the roots. Next, we graded the area and applied a selective herbicide to prevent weeds from returning. The boulders brightened this shady garden and added texture and a new dimension to the space. The final step was placing a carefully selected mix of native ferns, Astilbe, Phlox, Salomon’s Seal, and Brunnera, all of which tolerate part to full shade conditions. The perennials were arranged in flowing groups to restore the natural look of the forest and to complement the moss-covered boulders in perfect harmony.
